On Thursday, a court in South Africa found Oscar Pistorius not guilty of the most serious charges of murder. But after an unexplained adjournment, the court returned on Friday morning with its decision on a lesser charge of “culpable homicide,” the U.S. equivalent of involuntary manslaughter, and that verdict was guilty. Mr. Pistorius was also found guilty on a lesser firearms charge. He may serve up to 15 years in prison, but more likely five to eight years.
Mr. Pistorius is the handsome Paralympic athlete accused of killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, a South African model, when he shot her through a bathroom door. The trial has been compared to that of O.J. Simpson.
